FWIW, I’m a chef and whenever I make soup/stock I try to have 50% onions 25% celery 25% carrots. I think you got it about right! (Who cares there’s no celery, moar onions!!!)

First things first no not enough onion. Second off are you making the soup or is he? Because if it’s you he has no say. I use 3-4x the amount of onion in my soups I make for just me and my husband.

Normally if I am making an onion dish I use 3 onions. I just make a roast chicken with veggies and used 4 huge sweet onion.
